The First Initiative · Where It All Began

The Wishes in the Box.

The birthday that began Earthly Angels United.

It started not with a fundraiser, but with a birthday. One of our founders chose to spend hers somewhere unexpected at an Urban Renewal center in Nassau, surrounded by children whose Christmases were not always certain.

Instead of cake and gifts for herself, she asked the children to do something simple: write down three things they hoped to find under the tree. Their wishes were folded, dropped into a single box, and carried back into the world with one quiet invitation.

"Reach into the box. Pull out a name. Grant one wish."

Friends became sponsors. Strangers became family. One by one, those folded papers turned into wrapped gifts each one chosen by someone who, until that moment, was a stranger to the child receiving it.

That single box of wishes is now an annual movement. Every Christmas we still place real names, written in real handwriting, into real hands children and teenagers ages 6–16 whose hopes deserve to be held by someone who chooses to care.

Joy multiplies when it’s shared.
